Didn’t get the mural — here’s what’s next

What I’ve been painting, what I’ve been praying about, and what’s up next...

So last week was a bit of a blur — I was prepping for my baptism (which was really special), and I didn’t end up sending an update. But I’m back this week with a few things to share.

First up: I didn’t end up getting the pool mural project I applied for. Of course I’m a little bummed, but honestly, I’m taking it as an indication to double down on something I’ve been dreaming about for a while now — a brand new collection that’s bigger and different from anything I’ve done before so it’s taking extra time to prep for.

It’s exciting and also kind of intimidating. I have such a clear intention that’s come to me, and I just hope I can do it justice on canvas. We’ll see how it unfolds.

In the meantime, I’ve been a painting that mean a lot to me:
— Autumn’s portrait (my daughter when she was about one year old) that’s been sitting on the easel for over a year.

I’m really trying to find a way to finish it the way it deserves. Any suggestions would be great!

I also did an impromptu new piece this week titled “Unbridled Expectations”, created for a dear friend. It’ll be added to the Ash & Essence collection soon and available as a print on the website.

The title touches on how we sometimes run wild with hopes or assumptions—only to find out that surrendering those expectations is where real peace begins. It’s a reflection of how I’ve been feeling recently with social media and generally about my art.

I’m really trying to slow down and meditate on abiding in Christ and letting Him direct me rather than running with my own ideas or expectations of how things should be, which of themselves I know will bear no fruit.

Also, a little win: a “Veiled Strength” print from my Ash & Essence collection recently found its new home. That always brings me so much joy — to know these pieces are resonating and being welcomed into your spaces:

Lastly, some fun news: I might be the featured artist at the Sheep River Library this October/November. Nothing’s official yet, but fingers crossed!

Thanks for being here, truly. I don’t take it for granted.

Warmly with love,

Martina
