Here’s where things are at right now:

This lion painting is in the oil stage now. I really love how the textures and shapes have come through. The next few layers will focus on neutralizing some of the more intense colours, darkening the top of the mane and doing the finishing touches on the details.

This painting is still in chalks/charcoals/acrylics. I haven’t decided when to switch to oils yet. I’ve been working on this one during my mixed media class as the example painting. I really like how the expression has come through. I’m excited for oil glazing as I think it will tone down what needs to be toned down and accentuate some of the finer details in the underpainting. I’m hopeful that the oil layers should be thin and relatively quick on this painting because I really like how it’s come together so far and I don’t want to alter it too much.

This painting is in oils; however, I’ve decided to add an umbilical cord so I’m doing a quick white charcoal layer that I will paint in using oils. I like how the detail work has come through and the textures of the opaque oils but I don’t love the colouring of the painting yet, especially the background. This one to me has the most work that still needs to be done because I haven’t decided how it’s going to resolve yet.

The fourth commission is still in planning but I expect to be starting it in the next week or two as well.

Thank you so much for being here with me.

Warmly in Him,

Martina
